The debates are 60 minute sessions around a controversial topic. The debate will have a Chair who will moderate the debate. The debate should have a motion in the form of “This house believe that…..”. Motions should be balanced to give both sides a realistic chance of making an argument – i.e. motions should not be heavily biased in favour of one side. There should be 2 speakers for the motion and 2 speakers against the motion. The first speaker for the motion speaks followed by the first speaker against the motion and then followed by the second speaker for the motion and then the second speaker against the motion. Each speaker will talk for 10 minutes with no questions. After all the speakers have spoken, the Moderator takes questions from the floor. The Chair will do a poll of votes before the debate starts and then at the end after the questions.
