Per Caye-Thomasen is an otologist, neuro-otologist and senior skull base surgeon based at the ORL-HNS University Clinic in Copenhagen, which has been the national centre for treatment of vestibular schwannoma in Denmark since 1976. The resulting Danish Vestibular Schwannoma Database is the largest in the world, currently containing close to 4000 patients. The clinic also serves as the East Danish Center for Cochlear Implantation and Per Caye-Thomasen is the senior cochlear implant surgeon, performing surgery on adult and all pediatric cases.
Per Caye-Thomasen graduated as medical doctor from the University of Copenhagen in 1993 and qualified as specialist in Oto-rhino-laryngology in 2002. He obtained the degree Doctor of Medical Science from the University of Copenhagen in 2001 (thesis on otitis media). He is currently professor at the University of Copenhagen and has published more than 150 papers in international journals, as well as several book chapters.
He is member of a number of national and international societies, including CORLAS, and has been the Danish delegate to The European Academy of Otology and Neurotology (EAONO) 2009-14. He was elected general secretary of EAONO in 2014 and president in 2017. He has also served as vice president of the Danish Society of Oto-rhino-laryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2015-17, and was elected president 2017. European Regional Secretary to IFOS Executive Committee since 2017.
Scientific interests include basic and clinical science of the middle and inner ear, including cochlear implants. Surgical activities include vestibular schwannomas (retro- and translabyrinthine), cholesteatoma, otosclerosis, otitis sequelae, bone anchored hearing systems, cochlear and middle ear implants.
