Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients often feel that their information needs are not adequately met prior to commencing their treatment. In this instructional session, in keeping with the overall theme of innovation and collaboration for the 2018 BACO meeting, a protocol to develop an improved pre-treatment speech and language therapy (SLT), designed in partnership with patients and healthcare professionals using experience based co-design (EBCD) methodology will be presented.
Outline of the session:
This session will look at EBCD methodology and its use to improve the SLT pre-treatment pathway for HNC patients undergoing chemoradiotherapy. Utilising EBCD provides an opportunity for clinicians and service users to work in partnership to co-design care pathways. The actions and learning points from this project will be presented.
Participants will gain an insight into an innovative and collaborative methodology aiming to improve patient experience and care.
Who the session is aimed at:
This session is aimed at all healthcare professionals who are striving to improve patient experience along the HNC care pathway. It is anticipated that the learning points from this instructional session will lead to further projects aiming to improve the care for patients as they live with and beyond their HNC.
